Neil started work at Ewing Hickman and Clark in 1994 and completed his transfer from barrister to solicitor in 1996 and has continued to work at the firm (now Footner & Ewing) ever since. 

Neil has always been involved in criminal and/or family litigation for the firm and has been a duty solicitor for both Courts and police station work since 1997.  Neil is a solicitor advocate (higher rights criminal proceedings) and has experience of dealing with the whole variety of criminal work, from theft to murder and pretty much everything in between. 

Neil is also a member of the Law Society’s Children Panel and has been since 2000.  Neil undertakes work in the whole range of care proceedings and regularly acts for children, parents and wider family members.  Neil regularly deals with Special Guardianship applications, adoption matters and Child Protection/Pre Proceedings advice.

Neil has been a partner of the firm since 1999, becoming Senior Partner in 2020.  He is joint head of our criminal and family departments.

Neil is also the firms Compliance Manager holding both the posts of Compliance Officer for Legal Practice (COLP) and Compliance Officer for Finance and Administration (COFA).
