WILLS & PROBATE DEPARTMENT:  LEGAL SECRETARY

Permanent vacancy at this firm’s Southampton office for a hard working and enthusiastic legal secretary to work in the Wills & Probate team.

The successful applicant will require the following skills:

  • Experience in production of legal documents, making amendments when asked and using software to track changes and also preparing comparison documents;
  • Competent diary management skills to include organising meetings and appointments;
  • Preparation of client bills and client reporting;
  • Responsibility for file maintenance and correspondence;
  • General ad-hoc administration duties;
  • Confident telephone manner handling telephone and face to face, with a sensitive approach, enquiries from clients and third parties;
  • Strong audio and copy typing skills. Proficient with Outlook, Word and preferably Excel. Experience with Lexis Nexis Smart Forms would be an advantage but not essential.

The ideal candidate will have previous legal secretarial experience together with excellent communication, organisational and time management skills.

Salary is commensurate with experience.

PRIVATE CLIENT DEPARTMENT:  SOLICITOR/FCILEx

We are looking for a solicitor/FCILEx to join our wills and probate team. Experience will include the drafting of Wills and LPA’s, administering and drafting trusts along with estate administration and some Court of Protection experience.

CRIMINAL DEPARTMENT:  SOLICITOR

We are currently seeking highly motivated and skilled Criminal Solicitors to join our well established team based in and around Southampton. The ideal candidate(s) will have a strong background in criminal law, ideally be duty accredited and possess excellent communication and advocacy skills.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Criminal Solicitor, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Advising and representing clients in criminal matters, including providing legal representation at police stations and court proceedings.
    • Managing a diverse caseload, including conducting thorough research and analysis of case facts, legal issues, and relevant legislation.
    •          Drafting legal documents, including correspondence, proofs, witness statements, and pleadings.
    •          Conducting case preparation, including gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and liaising with the Crown Prosecution Service.
    •          Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with clients, colleagues, and other professionals within the criminal justice system.
    •          Representing clients in Magistrates’ and Crown Courts, as well as other tribunals and appellate courts, as required.
    •          Ensuring compliance with regulatory and firm requirements, including maintaining accurate records and adhering to confidentiality protocols.
    •          Joining the local duty Solicitor scheme and/or participating in the Firm’s out-of-hours rota and providing on-call support to clients as needed.
    •          Continuously updating legal knowledge and skills through professional development and training.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A minimum of 2 years PQE in criminal law
  • Duty Solicitor accreditation (preferred but not essential)
  • A valid Driving Licence and access to a vehicle, as travel to client meetings and court appearances will be required.

CRIMINAL DEPARTMENT:  ACCREDITED POLICE STATION REPRESENTATIVES

We have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and enthusiastic individual(s) to join our established and respected criminal department working closely with members of an experienced criminal law team to manage a varied caseload.

In addition to attending Police Stations as an Accredited Police Station Representative, the role will also involve assisting fee earners within the department with all aspects of their work including undertaking research, case administration and document management, analysis of information and evidence, attending meetings with clients and counsel, attending at court appearances and drafting witness statements.

You should hold The Police Station Representatives Accreditation Scheme to apply for this role.

Training and close supervision will be provided by senior fee earners within the team.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

•          A strong background in criminal law
•          A valid Driving Licence and access to a vehicle, as travel to client meetings and court appearances will be required.
